Yearning for Simple and Extraordinary

By Daniel Dessinger · Thursday, October 9th, 2008

My heart has been deeply tenderized since I first met my precious daughter. She is an unspeakable joy in my life. God has opened up whole levels of vulnerability and softness in me. That may not be the butch/jock type thing to say, but it doesn’t matter anymore. The goal of transparency is no longer to gain acceptance from you and others, but to share experiences with and simply be known. And I attempt to share the burden on my heart with you.

I just watched Rolland Baker interviewed on Prophetic TV. My heart stirred and my imagination danced. Rolland and Heidi Baker are blessings to the world. They are people so genuine that people influenced by them are moved to repent from selfishness and discard appearances in order to live a life genuine and true. Thousands of churches have been started by them. Thousands of orphans have received love from them. They have chosen the most base things in life so that God would glorify His name in the absence of human pride.

I am in awe of the lives that they live. They are humming with a vibrant freshness like that of the Holy Spirit. There’s no reason for them to be concerned about our opinion of them, for they have enjoyed resting while God moves in power. That is the rest I want to enter.

Rolland prayed for the viewers at the end of the interview. I will replay that prayer and interview many times, to be sure. I want to receive that which he prayed for. I want to be that man who looks back on his life and says with joy: I lived life to the full!

They make poverty sound attractive. It sounds oh so enticing. To have no sense of a need to impress. To never feel the burden of impressing another professionally, intellectually, socially, etc. To live so basically that food, shelter, love, and God are the primary issues of life.

I’m losing track now. I cannot put a multitude of words in one article to explain how I am impacted by this couple. Their simple obedience and enjoyment of God has made them my heroes.
